Our Travel Initiative
We are keen to encourage our employees to car share.
By encouraging our employees to car share, the benefits of this include financial gain and reducing their carbon footprint. There are 30 million empty car seats on the UK’s roads every rush hour. Car sharing is also a great way of networking and meeting colleagues. Statistics from National Car Share states:
- If average car occupancy were to increase by half – with 2.37 person per car rather than 1.38 – it would lead to 1/3 fall in traffic
- If there were an increase of 10% - with 1.74 persons per car on average - this would reduce traffic on our roads by 9%.
- Over half of drivers would share a car to work if there was someone suitable to travel with.
- A 10% car occupancy rise would reduce congestion by as much as a doubling rail usage.
The St. James's Place Car Initiative allows employees to search for their postcode on the employee Intranet and see if any of their colleagues are local to them and whom they can share a car with. This gives employees options for car sharing on a regular basis or occasionally depending on their circumstances.
